Getting Around in Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur is a really easy city to get around, with a large network of bus routes, light commuter trains and taxis. Commuter trains are probably the best option for tourists, as regular traffic jams can make car or bus journeys somewhat painful, particularly at peak traffic periods (7.30-9am and 5-7.30pm). Taxis can be hailed from almost anywhere in Kuala Lumpur. Be aware of drivers overcharging - insist on your driver using the meter. Buses are the cheapest way to get around (apart from by foot), and there are bus stops everywhere. Buses can become very cramped during rush hour, and at these times it's advisable to use the train. Kuala Lumpur trains are designed with efficiency in mind when it comes to taking passengers from one place to another and so work very effectively. The Monorail, Putra LRT and Star run on elevated tracks, thus bypassing major roads and avoiding delays caused by traffic jams.
